Inaugural Post

Hey. My name is Alex. I enjoy looking at birds and listening to that ol' rock and roll music.

The title of this blog, as you see, reflects that pair of seemingly unrelated interests--seemingly. Perhaps, as I go forth in whatever direction this endeavor takes me, I'll manage to draw some relevant comparison between the two, although I sincerely doubt it.

Here's a photo of a Lesser Yellowlegs. I saw a pair of them at Denver's Washington Park a few weeks back.

I only saw one at first. And thanks to a potion of various ill-considered opinions and deductions, I imgained that I had IDed a Wandering Tattler, normally only found in the extreme northwest, right in my backyard. (Well, not exactly in my backyard. I can't afford that neighborhood. But still.)

I e-mailed my findings to the Colorado Birding Society's site, waited, heard nothing, waited some more, sent a mildly aggrieved e-mail and continued to wait. Nothing, no reponse.

Then a few days later I saw the second one, and since Tattlers are almost always solitary, started to doubt myself. I followed them both around the shore of the lake for a while and finally made the correct ID.

I sent an e-mail back, explaining that I was an idiot and giving my rationale for the initial misidentification--which I won't go into because in retrospect it was so obvious it makes me feel like my head is made of melted-down nails--and never heard a word.

I think that, assuming anyone even read any of my anxious missives, that they imagined things would unfold this way from the first. Kind of like watching a little kid try and drive a tractor while drunk.

Anyway.
